Bhola, a simple band musician, bids farewell to his physically challenged sister Belu as he heads to Bombay to earn money for her marriage. On the road to the railway station, he sings a comforting song to keep her from feeling sad about his departure. The journey marks the first step into a city where dreams and danger will collide.

In Bombay, a wave of diamond robberies leaves no clues and unsettles the city. Inspector Pradhan suspects a familiar figure who appears at every crime, but lacks solid evidence to act. The case creates a looming tension that frames the forthcoming impersonation scheme.

Bhola reaches the city and is mistaken for the wealthy thief Ranjeet at a party. Ranjeet reveals his presence and crafts a plan to exploit Bhola's innocence. He proposes that Bhola pretend to be him in public while he undergoes cancer treatment.

Ranjeet explains that his illness requires him to hide behind an alternate identity. Bhola would act as Ranjeet to keep the criminal world moving and avoid leaving evidence against the real robber. He promises money for Belu's marriage as an incentive. Bhola, trusting and desperate, agrees.

Ruby, Ranjeet's girlfriend, trains Bhola to copy Ranjeet's mannerisms, speech, and aura. Bhola learns to project the façade with surprising accuracy and gradually enters the social circles where diamonds are moved. The training marks his entry into the criminal world.

Bhola attends a roadside marriage and sings the same village song, a moment that Belu hears and hurries toward. She hopes to find her brother in the crowd, but Bhola has already moved on, complicating any chance of reunion.

Belu marries Inspector Pradhan, bringing a new life in Bombay. Bhola marries Leena, and the two couples settle into domestic life as justice and family triumph. The film closes on a note of love, loyalty, and restored harmony.
