Rooster’s Breakfast

After being laid off, Đuro's old boss points him toward Pišti Gajaš's automechanic shop in the Mura Valley near Gornja Radgona. He accepts the position with a mix of relief and resolve, hoping this steady work will stabilize his life. The workshop's routines also introduce the social world of the town where the story unfolds.

Gajaš is skilled but naive, often dreaming aloud about the good old days. His friends drop by to play cards and discuss local events, creating a casual, tense atmosphere around the workshop. Đuro joins this circle as he begins his new life there.

Cveto Vuksanović Lepec, the town's biggest thug and nightclub owner, brings his Mercedes to the shop for repairs. Gajaš fixes the car, but Lepec delays paying, preferring to settle with favors rather than cash. The dynamic reinforces a climate of debt and coercion around the workshop.

Bronja, Lepec's wife, brings her car for service and Đuro and Bronja quickly begin meeting in secret. She asks Đuro to drive her to Austria to fetch pills for her friend, setting a dangerous entanglement in motion. Their relationship begins to cross professional boundaries.

Đuro and Bronja's affair becomes intense, while Gajaš discovers it but keeps it hidden from Lepec. Lepec grows suspicious when he finds a lighter Đuro left in their bedroom, hinting at the hidden relationship. The tension between the men intensifies as secrets pile up.

Gajaš dreams of Severina, the popular Croatian singer touring through town. When Lepec returns for repairs, Gajaš presses him to pay old debts, and Lepec offers money and a promise to bring Severina to dinner. The promise links two separate worlds: the workshop and a glitzy dinner with a celebrity.

Late that evening Severina arrives and joins a dinner at Gajaš's home. The presence of the pop star heightens the tension among Đuro, Bronja, and Lepec. The dinner scene becomes a focal point for the characters' longing and deceit.

The next morning, Gajaš brags to Đuro about a rooster breakfast with Severina, only for Đuro to reveal the woman wasn't the real Severina but a lookalike. The lie exposes the blurred boundaries and pretenses that drive the relationships. The moment adds fuel to the already volatile dynamics in town.

Lepec arrives and immediately spots a necklace Đuro received from Bronja, realizing the affair in full. The discovery shatters any pretense of harmony and sets the stage for a violent confrontation. The film tightens the stakes as loyalties are tested.

In a heated quarrel, Gajaš pulls a gun and shoots Lepec before Lepec can strike Đuro. The act abruptly resolves the immediate threat but severs the ties among the central characters. After the shooting, the town's power dynamics are irreversibly altered.

Some time later, Đuro visits Gajaš in prison. Gajaš then orders him to take over the workshop and maintain it as he did. Đuro accepts and settles there with Bronja and her daughter, beginning a new life under the shadow of the events.
