Tony 'le Stéphanois' is released from a five-year prison sentence for a jewel heist. He finds himself struggling to readjust to life on the streets and reconnect with a world that has changed in his absence.

Tony's friend Jo approaches him with an enticing yet reckless proposal from their acquaintance Mario. They discuss an audacious smash-and-grab at a jeweler's store in Paris, but Tony initially hesitates to join in.

After learning that his ex-girlfriend Mado has become involved with gangster Pierre Grutter, Tony confronts her at Grutter's club. His jealousy and frustration boil over when he violently beats her, showcasing his emotional turmoil.

Driven by rage and desperation, Tony decides to go ahead with the heist, but with an increased challenge. He plans to crack the jeweler's safe instead of just robbing the front window, demonstrating his determination.

To help with their ambitious scheme, Tony and Jo bring in César, a skilled safecracker from Italy. The three begin meticulously planning and rehearsing their daring operation, determined to disable the store's sophisticated alarm system.

Under the cover of darkness, the group begins their heist by chiseling through the cement ceiling of the jewelry store from an adjacent flat. Everything appears to be going according to plan, and they escape without detection.

After the successful heist, César betrays his partners by stealing a diamond ring to gift to his lover, Viviane. This act of greed begins to sow the seeds of conflict among the group.

Grutter learns about Mado's injuries and feels betrayed by her, prompting him to seek revenge. He orders his drug-addicted brother, Rémy, to kill Tony, igniting a dangerous chain reaction.

In a brutal turn of events, Rémy murders Mario and his wife Ida when they refuse to reveal the location of the stolen jewels. This act leaves Tony devastated as he realizes the stakes of their criminal activities.

Heartbroken by the loss of his friends, Tony retrieves the hidden treasure and provides an extravagant funeral for Mario and Ida. He then confronts Grutter and executes César, realizing the depth of betrayal within their ranks.

Grutter's gang kidnaps Jo's young son, Tonio, as leverage against Tony and his crew. The situation becomes increasingly dire, and Tony must make crucial decisions to save the boy.

With assistance from Mado, Tony embarks on a brave mission to rescue Tonio from Grutter's clutches. This leads to an intense showdown where lives hang in the balance, ultimately resulting in the demise of Rémy and Louis.

Upon returning to Paris, Tony learns that Jo has succumbed to the pressure of their dangerous situation and has been killed by Grutter. The loss hits Tony hard as he realizes the cost of their crime spree.

In a tense final confrontation, Tony faces a gravely wounded Grutter. Although Tony kills Grutter, he sustains fatal injuries that seal his own tragic fate.

Driving back to Paris with moments to spare, Tony ensures Tonio is safely returned home before succumbing to his wounds. As police and bystanders converge, they discover the substantial winnings hidden in a suitcase, marking an ironic end.
