Cochran leaves the Navy after twelve years and accepts Tibey's invitation to stay at his hacienda in Mexico. He arrives bearing a matched pair of Beretta shotguns as a gift, signaling a bond beyond simple hospitality. Tibey, a powerful crime boss, moves with the confidence of someone protected by a loyal entourage.

From the moment Cochran arrives, he unsettles Cesar, Tibey's right-hand man, by acting independently. A private meeting reveals Tibey's harsh rules about loyalty, and he enforces them with a brutal display that ends with one of Cesar's associates dead. The confrontation foreshadows the danger that will color Cochran's stay.

Miryea, Tibey's young wife, and Cochran develop a mutual fascination as they move through the lavish surroundings. A critically wounded Cochran is found by Mauro, a peasant farmer, who slowly nurses him back to health. Cochran retrieves money hidden in the burnt cabin and, with Mauro's help, starts planning vengeance against Tibey. Mauro drives Cochran to town and provides support for the dangerous road ahead.

On the road, Cochran encounters a Texan transporting a horse who offers him a ride toward Durango. The Texan dies later in his car, a quiet but poignant reminder of the costs of Cochran's quest. Cochran carries the memory of that kindness as he presses forward.

In Durango, Cochran meets Amador and Ignacio, who lost relatives to Tibey's world, and they join his vendetta. They capture another of Tibey's henchmen, who reveals where Miryea can be found, setting up the plan to strike back. The group steels themselves for a dangerous confrontation.

Cochran, Amador, and Ignacio ambush Tibey and his bodyguard during a morning horseback ride. When Cochran forces a confession, Tibey deflects by demanding forgiveness for stealing his wife and finally reveals that Miryea is being kept at a convent. The information reframes Cochran's quest with a new destination.

Cochran arrives at the convent to find Miryea dying of AIDS. He carries her outside and tells her that he loves her, and she responds in kind as she passes away in his arms. The final moments of their romance are marked by heartbreak and silence.

Cochran mourns the loss of the woman he loved, reflecting on the brutal arc of revenge and passion that defined his time in Mexico. The film closes with him honoring Miryea's memory and stepping into an uncertain future.
