The team is dispatched to Ecuador to rescue two reporters trapped after a helicopter crash following Mount Sangay’s eruption. Rocky Canyon and Billy Blazes race against volatile weather and treacherous terrain to reach the crash site. This mission marks the first major escalation of the global crisis.

Rocky and Billy reach the crash site and extract the reporters. During the ascent, Rocky neglects to use piton gloves, causing both he and Billy to slip toward the edge. Rocky’s quick action saves Billy from a fatal fall, and they manage to pull the reporters to safety, prompting Billy to admonish recklessness and stress the importance of teamwork.

As storms intensify globally, Billy orders a worldwide deployment of Rescue Heroes. Rocky is assigned to Geis, Switzerland, to back up after a major avalanche. The operation tests their teamwork under dangerous, rapidly changing conditions.

Rocky takes a perilous line while rescuing a snowboarder, narrowly dodging an advancing wall of ice. The risky move triggers a dangerous moment, and Billy suspends Rocky from field duty to reinforce adherence to the plan and trust in the team. The suspension serves as a corrective measure aimed at restoring discipline.

Meanwhile, Billy works to repair a dam on the Pa Sak River in Thailand. A sudden blackout causes the dam to fail, unleashing a torrent of floodwater. Jack Hammer arrives with a rope that helps pull Billy away from danger, starting a difficult recovery operation.

The Rescue Heroes deduce that Sangay is the origin of the escalating storms, but the clues point to something far more unusual. A magnetic element within volcanic ash appears to influence weather on a planetary scale, with storms being pulled north by Earth’s magnetic field. If the storms converge, they threaten a global catastrophe.

Rocky learns that Billy’s illness stems from a poisonous plant encountered during the Sangay mission. Feeling responsible, Rocky volunteers to join Wendy Waters on a mission to retrieve the antidote root from the volcano. The team informs Matt Medic and plans to return to Ecuador with the root.

On the Hyperjet, Rocky decodes Billy’s whispered phrase as referring to the collective power of lightning bolts. He shares the insight with the team, and Martin Roach coordinates with the United Nations to mobilize an international response. A plan for a mile-high lightning rod in Greenland begins to take shape.

The plan advances to construct a mile-high lightning rod to ground the electrical fury and avert catastrophe. During the build, Jack Hammer is injured when a lightning strike fuses the jet’s cable to the top of the tower. The team rallies to provide aid and ensure the project can continue safely.

Back at the Mountain Action Command Center, the team faces a moment of humility and reconciliation. Rocky apologizes to Billy for his earlier missteps, and Billy apologizes for not fully disclosing his illness. The exchange strengthens their bond and solidifies the team’s unity.

In a decisive turn, Billy promotes Rocky to Mission Select Team Leader, signaling renewed confidence in Rocky’s leadership and the team’s unity. The team adapts to the new dynamic as they brace for whatever storms may come next.
