Rebecca’s family is behind on the Sunnybrook Farm mortgage, so her mother sends the seven‑year‑old to live with her strict Aunt Miranda. Treated as a prisoner, she pursues school, rebuffs classmates calling her “missy poor‑house,” and wins them over. She helps the needy, spreads joy, hopes for a brighter future, and was adapted by Frances Marion.
