Anne of Green Gables

Anne Anne Shirley Shirley is an orphan who comes to live on a quiet rural farm with Matthew Cuthbert O. P. Heggie and his sister Marilla Cuthbert Helen Westley. Although they hoped to adopt a boy to help on the farm, Anne’s lively imagination and stubborn warmth quickly win them over and endear her to the surrounding village. Gilbert, ever thoughtful, had pleaded with the doctor to help Matthew for free, an act that speaks to his deep devotion. When Marilla finally learns of the lengths he went to, she forgives the Blythes and, with a tempered warmth, allows Anne and Gilbert to explore their relationship again.
