Meanwhile, in the mystical region of Nepal, Jones reconnects with Marion Ravenwood, the enigmatic daughter of his late mentor Abner Ravenwood, in a rundown bar. During their poignant conversation filled with memories of their past, chaos erupts as Gestapo agent Arnold Toht arrives to seize a medallion from Marion. His failed attempt to retrieve it from the fire results in a painful burn imprinted on his hand, leading to a hasty escape for both Jones and Marion.
As they traverse the treacherous terrain of Cairo, they reunite with Sallah, a trusted ally. It is then revealed that the Nazis have crafted a flawed replica of the medallion based on Toht's burns, solidifying their sinister intentions. A surprise ambush from the Nazis leaves Marion in grave danger, while Jones grapples with the agony of potential loss.
In a desperate attempt to decipher the enigma surrounding the Ark, Jones consults an imam who translates the obscure message inscribed on the medallion. This knowledge becomes two-fold: a caution against disturbing the Ark's resting place and the exact measurements necessary for the Staff of Ra, a crucial tool for locating the cherished relic.
