Rabbit Trap

Darcy and Daphne finally confront the strange entity that has haunted their cottage – a Tylwyth Teg, a Welsh fairy child that attached itself to them after Darcy stepped into a faerie circle. The creature, calling itself “the Child,” has been feeding on their secrets and desires, longing for a mother’s love and for a place to belong. As the couple’s nightmares intensify, Darcy records a confession for Daphne, revealing the horrific abuse he suffered as a child in the very house they now occupy. By finally voicing the trauma, he breaks the hold the fairy has over him.

The Child then demands to be taken home, to be given the love and “mother” it craves. Instead of fighting it, Darcy and Daphne choose compassion. They tell the fairy a gentle bedtime story about a rabbit scared of darkness, teaching the creature the language of silence and acceptance. As the tale ends, the Child collapses into a thick yellow liquid that solidifies into a dead rabbit. They lay the rabbit’s body inside the faerie circle and bury it, symbolically sending the spirit back to its own realm.

With the fairy’s presence lifted, the house returns to normal and the overgrown woods recede. The couple, now unburdened, share the truth of Darcy’s past and embrace the possibility of a future together—perhaps even parenthood—exactly the destiny the fairy hoped to steer them toward. The film closes on a quiet, hopeful note, suggesting that love and honesty can release even the most ancient of hauntings.
