The battle of the sexes unfolds as a drawing‑room satire. Editor Philippe has lived six years with actress Paulette. He tells reporter friend Claudine he plans to propose. Hollywood idol Carl Erickson arrives in Paris, attends Paulette’s show via Philippe, and tries to seduce her. Over two days tears, separation and revelations force the characters to speak half the truth, in a quadrille of shifting alliances.
