Amar Apte Girish Kulkarni is a private detective who makes ends meet by spying on cheating partners. He is married to Prachi, a woman who silently regrets the marriage despite her parents opposing it, and he is kept afloat by the support of his in-laws. The job he takes on a typical day can tilt his world—he often steps into morally murky territory to collect secrets for those who want to hide them.
On one assignment, Amar gets a close-up view of a woman with her lover, exactly as her husband demanded, but the moment of proximity exposes him to danger. He manages to escape the scene, yet the trouble isn’t over. Later, police arrive and tell him he has tangled with the wrong person. The lover of the woman he photographed turns out to be Mr. Prasad Sathe, a prominent businessman, who files a case for breach of privacy. The authorities seize all of Amar’s earnings from this case, effectively bribing them to hush the matter.
A new client appears, and the encounter shifts the tone of Amar’s world. Neha [Sai Tamhankar] is introduced as the wife of Prasad Sathe, a woman who wants Amar to spy on her husband. She hands him exactly the amount he had lost bribing the police, matching his earlier misfortune with a fresh, uphill debt. When Amar visits her home, she explains that Prasad doesn’t stay there permanently, only visiting from time to time. The meetings continue under the pretext of spy work, and the two begin to share deeper feelings that he never anticipated.
As Amar digs into Prasad’s life, he discovers a painful truth: Neha is Prasad’s mistress, while his own wife is someone else entirely. Enraged, Amar confronts Prasad with the evidence and demands the fee he had lost before—but Prasad coolly reframes the deal, saying the initial payment was peanuts and that a bigger payoff could come from a small, dangerous job. The moral line between professional duty and personal loyalty begins to blur as Amar contends with competing obligations.
Amar’s domestic life suffers as Prachi confronts him in a heated moment, accusing him of being unable to shoulder responsibility at home. This confrontation fuels Amar’s internal conflict, and he seeks out Neha, asking whether a woman could truly love a man like him. The two become entangled in a dangerous emotional mix, and they decide to continue their affair, despite the risk it poses to every part of his life. They slip into a physical connection, a moment that sealed the complexity of their relationship.
Soon after, Prachi discovers them and reacts with shock. The next day, Neha presses Amar to commit to their relationship, insisting it cannot stay a one-night stand. Amar tries to steady the turbulent situation, but the consequences echo through his home life. A series of frantic events follows: Neha sends a letter through Amar’s mother-in-law, a note that quietly forgives him but asks him never to meet Neha again if he wishes to lead a responsible life. Amar rushes to explain to Neha, but fate intervenes in a brutal way—Neha is found dead after a confrontation he cannot fix.
Amar’s world begins to tilt as he learns more from a private party hosted by Prasad Sathe, attended by high-ranking police officers and politicians who expect his visiting card and celebrate a windfall payoff that seems to validate his risky choices. The money from that night marks an uneasy ascent into a detective’s dream life, but it comes with a heavy price: the memory of Neha’s voice, of the kiss of a love that could never be fully owned, and the ominous sense that something has gone terribly wrong.
In the aftermath, Amar confronts the truth that the sensational payoff was built on a trap to remove Neha from his life. He returns home with a heavy heart, torn between the thrill of professional success and the crushing weight of guilt. He finally gathers the courage to tell Prachi what he has done, hinting at murder and the consequences that could follow. Yet the narrative circles back to a more intimate moment—the two of them head to a doctor for Prachi’s upcoming sonography, a shared moment of hope amid the darkness of the choices that have defined their lives.
