Read it as a quick recap before the sequel, to check a scene you missed, or to finally understand what really happened.

In the underground Diamond Domain, the Heart Diamond—the kingdom’s sole energy source—begins to fail, threatening life both below and above. Diancie Marika Matsumoto is the Mythical Pokémon and the Diamond Domain's princess, but she does not yet have the power to create a Heart Diamond.

Determined to save her home, Diancie embarks on a journey to meet the life-giving Legendary Pokémon Xerneas Yoshiko Mita, who can unlock the power needed to forge a Heart Diamond.

After months of searching, Diancie arrives in a city and encounters the Pokémon trainer Ash Ketchum, along with Pikachu Ikue Otani and Serena Mayuki Makiguchi, among others. Together, they decide to join the quest to reach Xerneas, drawn by a shared hope of saving the Diamond Domain.

They track Xerneas to the Allearth Forest, now a forbidden place after Yveltal, the embodiment of destruction, destroyed it and formed the Cocoon of Destruction. Diancie learns from Xerneas how to harness the energy needed to create a new Heart Diamond, a lesson that promises to change everything.

Meanwhile, Team Rocket and the thieves Riot Koichi Yamadera, Marilyn Flame Rika Adachi, Millis Steel Shoko Nakagawa, and Argus Steel Reiji Nakagawa scheme to seize Diancie’s power for their own gain. Their pursuit disturbs the Cocoon, provoking the awakening of Yveltal, whose destructive force stones Pikachu and the other thieves’ Pokémon in a sweeping display of power.

Xerneas then uses its life force to heal the forest and restore its people and Pokémon, even as it becomes a protective tree to guard the balance of nature. With the danger abated, Diancie returns to the Diamond Domain to forge a new Heart Diamond, a triumph that saves the kingdom and reaffirms the delicate harmony sustaining both the underground world and the surface.
