Sasha Greenberg, an astrophysicist, has spent 17 years in the United States. Invited to speak at a cosmology congress in Moscow, he returns home for the first time, confronting former colleagues and personal questions. As perestroika reshapes Russia, public and private lives are re‑examined, and Sasha sees the social and sexual upheavals as a crisis.
