Stella writes to Amu asking him to take care of their daughter Pappa and then leaves the family. Amu has been living and working in Dubai, unaware of the upheaval to come. This act marks the beginning of a fractured family and foreshadows the long road ahead.

Ten years after Stella's departure, Amu moves back to India to take on the role of a single father. He struggles to reconnect with Pappa and rebuild a family life amid social stigma. The return sets the stage for the next phase of hardship.

The neighbours shun them because of Pappa’s muscular health condition, making everyday life difficult. Amu fights to shield Pappa from cruelty and maintain their dignity. The social pressure compounds their sense of isolation.

To escape the stigma, they move into Amu’s brother’s house with his wife and his mother. The arrangement offers temporary shelter but also introduces new family tensions. They cling to the hope of stability.

Amu and Pappa are asked to move out by his sister-in-law, who irrationally fears her child might catch Pappa’s illness. The ultimatum demonstrates the persistence of prejudice within their own circle. They have to relocate again.

Amu returns to their own home with Pappa and contends with locals who pressure him to sell the house and abandon the neighbourhood. He remains determined to stay by Pappa’s side and fight for their place. This confrontation marks a turning point in their fight for dignity.

One night, Pappa begins menstruation and Amu helps calm her panic. He seeks help from a woman named Vijaylakshmi, who offers assistance in exchange for basic needs. Vijaylakshmi moves in to support them, altering the household dynamic.

Vijaylakshmi grows closer to Amu and they eventually marry, hoping to provide stability for Pappa. The marriage brings temporary support, but the deeper motives soon come into focus. The household briefly appears to settle into a new normal.

Viji’s true intentions are revealed when she attempts to kill Pappa by pushing her into a well so she can gain ownership of the house. Amu learns that Viji was already married and had been pretending to help for financial gain. The betrayal shatters the fragile trust.

A dejected Amu leaves the house and takes Pappa with him as he goes to work, leaving Pappa with Viji for the time being. He meets Meera, a trans woman, who becomes a source of support and helps him secure a new place to live. Their budding friendship gradually transforms his outlook.

Pappa is diagnosed with a fungal infection, and Dr. Dhanapal recommends that she stay at a special home for children with her condition. Amu agrees with a heavy heart, recognizing the need for proper care. The diagnosis deepens the challenge facing their family.

Meera helps Amu in finding a new home and supporting Pappa. When Amu visits Pappa later, he discovers she has been beaten by workers at the home. He seeks further guidance from Dr. Dhanapal to understand her needs.

Feeling overwhelmed, Amu and Pappa walk into the sea at night with the intention of ending their lives. Meera arrives and saves them, offering a chance at a new path and hope for the future.

Meera teaches Amu about love, and the two marry. Pappa stays happily with her loving father and Meera as a new blended family, signifying a fresh chapter filled with care and affection.
