Parting Shots

Harry Sterndale is diagnosed with stomach cancer and given six weeks to live. This news prompts him to reflect on a life ruined by his ex-wife Lisa's investment scam. With nothing left to lose, he resolves to take revenge on those who wronged him.

Harry obtains a gun from the black market and goes to Lisa's home to kill her. Her betrayal leaves him financially ruined and emotionally scarred. This act marks the beginning of his chilling revenge spree.

Following Lisa's murder, the police question Harry but doubt that he is the killer. They lack physical evidence tying him to the crime, so suspicion lingers without enough proof to convict.

Disguising himself as a repair man, Harry sneaks into Gerd Layton's home and drowns him in his pool. Layton's secretary Jill becomes aware of the murder and decides to cover for Harry because her own parents were victims of Layton's scam.

The shared crime draws Harry and Jill together, and they begin a romantic relationship. Jill's involvement grows as she helps him evade suspicion and cover up the killings.

Harry and Jill visit an upscale restaurant, where the snobbish chef humiliates them and they are thrown out. That same night, Harry returns to the parking lot and shoots the chef.

The next day, Harry hires hitman Jamie to kill him so Jill can receive the life insurance payout. This arrangement signals a grim extension of his plan and shows how the motive broadens beyond personal revenge.

The police determine that the gun used to kill the chef is the same weapon that killed Lisa. This discovery ties Harry's killings together and raises the stakes of the investigation.

The police raid Harry's house seeking evidence, but there is not enough to convict him, so he is released. With the immediate danger past, he borrows as much money as possible and spends it on lavish hotels and a new car.

The next victims are a bully from Harry's school days and a back-stabbing former boss. The killings broaden his revenge beyond those who directly harmed him.

Harry returns to London and passes the gun to Jamie, indicating he no longer needs it. Jamie remains involved as the hired killer, even as the plan grows increasingly unstable.

Harry is hospitalized again, hoping for a cure for his supposed cancer. An operation reveals his stomach pains were due to a simple ulcer. Following the good news, Harry and Jill decide to marry.

As Harry and Jill prepare to leave their hotel, Jamie fires the gun at Harry but misses. In the distraction, Jamie accidentally kills a foreign head of state staying in the same hotel.

Jamie is apprehended and, since he used Harry's gun, takes responsibility for all of Harry's murders in a final act of charity. The act ends the immediate danger but leaves a somber note about Harry's life turning toward something better.
