As Jack Flange finds himself entangled in a desperate situation, he tends to his sister Nikki, who is critically ill in the hospital following a tragic car accident. With a rapidly depleting health insurance fund threatening to hinder her recovery, Jack devises a bold scheme to hijack a payroll van at the vibrant Sydney Fish Markets. His plan includes cleverly diverting the cash to a nearby Australia Post Box, thereby avoiding suspicion. Once the money is hidden away in Brooklyn, Jack adopts a new identity within the community of oyster farmers along the Hawkesbury River. Here he encounters Brownie, an eight-generation oyster farmer struggling to sustain his business, along with his grumpy father Mumbles, who frequently clashes with Brownie’s innovative approaches to oyster farming.

In his quest for work—under the guise of blending in—Jack crosses paths with Pearl, a meticulous cleaning lady with a discerning eye for fashion. Meanwhile, the relationship between Brownie and Mumbles continues to grow tense, fueled by disputes over farming methods and the unexplained absence of Trish, Brownie’s estranged wife. Despite her departure, Trish has successfully established her own thriving business, leaving Brownie’s operation struggling and unable to produce quality oysters, further exacerbating the rift between the two men.

As Jack’s anxiety mounts alongside the ticking clock—his stash of cash failing to materialize—he resorts to increasingly desperate attempts to retrieve it. Enter Slug, a wastewater manager known for his abrasive personality, whose confrontational behavior adds a volatile element to the tight-knit community of oyster farmers. A dramatic clash culminates in a physical confrontation between Slug and Jack, heightening the already simmering tensions.

An unexpected twist occurs when the postal worker responsible for delivering Jack’s funds suffers a sudden heart attack, sending the money plummeting to the depths of the Hawkesbury River. Mumbles continues to insist that only Trish’s return can save Brownie’s failing oyster business, thrusting the stakes even higher. However, Jack’s surprise turns to shock when he learns that Mumbles was responsible for the theft of his money, using the same currency to creatively craft Brownie’s gift to Trish—a bathtub. Mumbles’ defense of Jack’s questionable character only adds fuel to the fire, leading Jack to declare his resignation from the oyster business.
