Out of Sight

Foley is incarcerated at Lompoc Penitentiary where he meets Ripley, Glenn, and the scheming Snoopy Miller. Foley saves Ripley from extortion by Miller, earning Ripley's vague promise of an outside job and a hint that uncut diamonds are hidden at his home.

After his release, Foley confronts Ripley about a real job but is offered only a security position. He then eyes a nearby bank, attempts a robbery, and is quickly sent to Glades Correctional Institution in Florida.

At Glades, Foley suspects Chino is orchestrating a breakout and calls Adele to alert Buddy and Glenn. During the breakout, U.S. Marshal Karen Sisco arrives, Foley escapes in a guard’s uniform, overpowers her, steals her car, and forces Sisco to hide with him in the trunk as Buddy drives.

In the trunk, Foley and Sisco begin talking as they drive; they meet Glenn to swap cars and continue toward Miami. Sisco recognizes Foley from a previous transport job and agrees to drive off with him rather than arrest him. The pair press on, heading toward the pursuit’s heart in Florida.

Sisco dreams of tracking down Foley, and upon waking she resolves to join the task force hunting him. She questions Adele and ends up arresting Chino at Adele’s apartment, earning a place on the team.

Foley and Sisco cross paths again in a hotel elevator as Foley and Buddy head to the basement garage to escape. Sisco lets them go without alerting the rest of the authorities, recognizing Foley but choosing not to detain him on the spot.

In Detroit, Foley and Buddy plan to break into Ripley’s mansion to steal the hidden diamonds. Miller is assembling his own burglary crew, and Foley and Buddy decide to team up with him for the robbery.

Sisco questions Miller’s wife Moselle and defends herself when Kenneth tries to assault her. The confrontation heightens the stakes and tightens the net around the criminals.

The thieves break into Ripley’s mansion and threaten housekeeper Midge. Foley deduces the diamonds are hidden in Ripley’s tropical fish tank, while Ripley reveals his love for Midge and refuses to leave without her.

Foley, unwilling to abandon Midge, hands the diamonds to Buddy and returns inside to confront the gang. Kenneth is shot by Foley, White Boy Bob trips and shoots himself, and Sisco arrives to shoot Miller in self-defense.

In the police van outside, Foley pleads for death, but Sisco shoots him in the leg and takes him into custody. The mood shifts from chase to capture as the law closes in on Foley and his partners.

Inside the van, Foley meets Hejira Henry, a detainee who boasts about nine escapes. Realizing that Sisco arranged their return to Glades together, Foley smiles as the van heads toward Florida.
