In July 1941, following the German invasion, a seasoned Italian soldier is deployed to the Soviet front. During his journey across Europe, he recalls the Russian fairy tales his mother shared with him. The train carries him toward the expansive Ukrainian plains, where a formidable enemy and a harsh winter await. The film draws upon the experiences of multiple Italian soldiers during this period.
