Adapted from Eliza Orzeszkowa’s novel, the film takes place in 1886 Lithuania, where a bitter feud erupts between the peasant Bohatyrowicz family and the aristocratic Korczyński clan in the village of Korczyn. Amid social and familial tensions, the romance between Justyna Orzelska, Benedykt Korczyński’s niece, and Jan Bohatyrowicz tests whether love can bridge the divide between their worlds.
