Joyce Chan Ching-yee, a 28-year-old superintendent of the Homicide Bureau, begins investigating a brutal rape-murder. She quickly recognises the killer’s modus operandi as the same one used in her mother’s murder 23 years earlier. This realisation sets up the central personal motive for the case.

The investigation leads to Lee Chun-min, who confesses to the murder of Chan's mother as well as several other women. He provides details that connect him to the case and suggest a broader serial pattern. His confession seems to close a chapter on the police's pursuit of the killer.

It’s revealed that Lee was arrested years before but released without trial. This foils the search for the real, older killer and leaves Chan convinced that there is still a dangerous culprit at large. The miscarriage of justice fuels Chan’s determination to see the case reopened.

Officer Wong Wing-nin arrives at Chan’s apartment to celebrate the apparent resolution of the case. Chan and Wong share an intimate moment after drinks. While Wong is in the shower, Chan accidentally picks up his phone and hears the voice of Cheung Sze-mei on the line, blurring the boundary between victim and killer.

Meanwhile, Chan’s assistant uncovers that Wong was the officer who secured Lee’s release years earlier. This revelation leads to the devastating realization that Wong is the killer behind the entire sequence. The killer’s true identity is finally implicated, closing the loop on the investigation.
