Nikki, Wild Dog of the North

Andre Dupas ties the bear cub Neewa to Nikki because he wants to keep both animals together and safe during their dangerous canoe journey through the rapids. Neewa's mother was just killed by a grizzly, leaving the cub orphaned and vulnerable. By tethering them together in the canoe, Andre prevents them from separating or fighting each other while he navigates the treacherous waters.
