Harry Fabian navigates the gritty underbelly of London as an ambitious tout and con man. His journey begins with a fractured relationship with Mary Bristol, which complicates his illegal endeavors.

While at a wrestling match, Fabian witnesses a heated argument between seasoned wrestler Gregorius and his son Kristo. Gregorius criticizes Kristo's tasteless promotion, which tarnishes the noble traditions of wrestling.

Seeing Gregorius's frustration, Fabian befriends him, convinced that aligning with Kristo's father will help him stage wrestling bouts successfully. He believes he can navigate the wrestling scene in London without backlash.

Fabian approaches nightclub owner Phil Nosseross with a proposal to invest in his wrestling venture. Initially met with skepticism, Helen encourages Nosseross to contribute half of the £400 Fabian requires.

In a desperate attempt to secure funding, Fabian seeks help from dubious figures in the underworld, including Figler, Googin, and Anna. Unfortunately for him, none are willing or able to help.

In a twist, Helen offers Fabian the £200 he needs after selling her expensive fur coat. She hopes to secure a license for her nightclub, not realizing Fabian forged documents for the license.

Nosseross receives a warning regarding Fabian from Kristo's associates but is too preoccupied with his suspicions about Helen to heed it. This oversight allows Fabian's plans to press forward without immediate repercussions.

Fabian opens a wrestling gym with the support of Gregorius and Nikolas, making Nosseross a silent partner. This event marks a pivotal moment in his con, as he begins to establish his presence in London's wrestling scene.

Kristo discovers his father's involvement with Fabian’s new venture and conspires with Nosseross to sabotage Fabian. The rivalry intensifies as they devise a plan to eliminate Fabian from the wrestling scene.

Fabian manages to orchestrate a fight between his wrestler Nikolas and The Strangler. This manipulation pits traditional wrestling against modern exhibitionism, drawing Gregorius into the conflict.

During the fight, tensions peak as The Strangler taunts Gregorius, leading to a brutal match where Nikolas sustains a broken wrist. Though Gregorius wins, he collapses shortly after from exhaustion, leading to tragic consequences.

Following the tragic event, Fabian's world begins to crumble. He steals money from Mary in a frantic bid to salvage his situation, but realization dawns that he has become increasingly isolated.

With Kristo placing a £1,000 bounty on his head, a manhunt ensues across London. As various figures from the underworld search for him, the stakes grow higher for Fabian.

Helen discovers that the license she believed was secured for her nightclub is fake. Upon returning to Nosseross, she is devastated to find that he has taken his own life, further deepening the tragedy.

In a desperate attempt to escape, Fabian seeks refuge on Anna's houseboat. As Kristo closes in, Fabian sacrifices himself by falsely accusing Mary of betrayal, but ultimately meets his end at the hands of The Strangler.
