Set in 1948 around the fictional town of Kapua, the film follows a Māori community facing three intertwined crises: young Ropata battles terminal leukaemia; Australian doctor Greg returns, discovers his Māori ancestry and wrestles with his identity; and locals rally to keep the town’s freezing works open. It offers a portrait of Māori life.
