Neuilly Yo Mama!

Sami's widowed mother sends him to live with his sister Djamila after taking a job on a boat. They relocate to Neuilly-sur-Seine, an affluent suburb. This move starts Sami's adjustment to a new home, school, and social world.

He starts attending Saint-Exupéry, the private school in Neuilly. He encounters a different social environment with new classmates and expectations. The school becomes the arena for his friendships and conflicts.

Sami endures taunts and social exclusion at school, especially from Guilain Lambert. The teasing sets up a sense of outsider status for him. He nevertheless keeps trying to fit in and make connections.

In music class, a piece moves Sami to tears because it reminds him of his friends back in Chalon. He becomes friends with Marie, the blonde violinist, who sees his tenderness. Their budding friendship brings warmth to Sami's experience at the school.

Guilain tries to win Marie's attention by tricking Sami into eating pork, which Sami cannot eat for religious reasons. Sami responds with a physical confrontation and beats Guilain. Marie scolds him for violence, but they later reconcile.

Guilain and Charles enter the class delegate elections. Guilain hires Malik, a local thug, to mug Sami and Charles in an effort to gain an advantage. The plan foreshadows the escalating conflict at the school.

Sami and Charles host a party at home to win votes for the election. Marie attends and forgives Sami, but Malik and his thugs trash the house. The disruption heightens the tension between ambition and control.

Sami's friends from Chalon arrive to help fend off Malik and his gang. They manage to drive Malik and the thugs away, but Malik delivers a black eye to Sami in the process. Marie is upset when she sees the injury.

Malik tracks down Guilain and beats him, thinking that Guilain set him up. Guilain and his mother encounter Sami's aunt Djamila and uncle Stanislas at the hospital, and tell them that the beating was Sami's fault. The tension between the families intensifies.

Djamila returns home enraged and tells Sami that she plans to send him back to his mother. The threat of being sent away heightens Sami's anxiety.

Marie finds Malik and offers him money to tell the headmistress that he is responsible for Guilain's beating. Malik refuses the cash and says that he had already told the headmistress the truth. The school's handling of the incident becomes a focal point for the moral questions raised by the events.

The headmistress informs Djamila about the incident and the involvement of Sami. Djamila forgives Sami, choosing to keep him in Neuilly rather than send him away. The resolution allows Sami to stay and continue his life there.

Charles wins the class election with a well written letter to the class. He then visits Sami's friends in Chalon to urge them to remember his name and vote for him in the future. The victory moves him toward the next stage of his political ambitions.

Sami stays in Neuilly-sur-Seine and begins a romantic relationship with Marie. The pair navigate their feelings while the social tensions around Sami continue to shape his life at the school. A new chapter opens for Sami in this new city.
