Varun Krishnan Jiiva begins his engineering journey when he steps into college and finds himself drawn to a familiar face during a cultural program. On stage, his childhood sweetheart, Nithya Vasudevan Samantha Ruth Prabhu, performs with grace, and Varun’s instinctive warmth turns into a hesitant but hopeful wooing as he gathers the courage to approach her after the show. The moment is made sweeter by a series of flashbacks that take us to their early school days, tracing a simple, earnest friendship that blossoms into something deeper. A misunderstanding, however, creates a rift, pushing Nithya away and forcing Varun to confront the fragility of first loves.
The film then rewinds to their tenth-standard days, where Nithya’s initial reserve gives way to a fluctuating closeness as Varun works to bridge the gap. Nithya rises as the pupil leader, a role that keeps her in constant contact with Deepak, a classmate and fellow pupil leader, much to Varun’s quiet unease. During a lengthy vacation, Nithya goes abroad, while Varun stays back to navigate family expectations and his own ambitions. His elder brother’s desire to marry a colleague becomes a focal point for the family, and the awkward negotiations leave Varun’s parents humiliated. In witnessing his family’s concern and sacrificial tenderness, Varun realizes how much they truly care for him, and this realization nudges him toward focusing on his studies and future prospects, including CAT preparation.
When Nithya returns, Varun’s demanding schedule continues to pull him away, testing the limits of their patience and trust. She initially understands, but a new challenge arises when she learns Varun plans to join IIM Kozhikode and suggests going with him. Varun, concerned about the cost of living and the idea of sharing a hostel, declines her proposal, leading to a heated argument that finally ends in another breakup, this time with heavier emotional undertones.
After completing his MBA and stepping into a professional role, Varun embarks on a mission to find Nithya. He travels to Manapad in Tamil Nadu, where she works as a schoolteacher at a tsunami relief camp. Nithya resists his advances, insisting that she is content with her present life. When she finally speaks with him, her response is guarded. Yet fate nudges them closer when they cross paths again at a family gathering: a sister’s wedding and Varun’s engagement simultaneously take place, forcing Nithya to confront what she truly feels.
Nithya attends Varun’s engagement and then his reception, an occasion that shakes her from her reluctance and prompts him to reconsider his own choices. The sight of her at the reception makes him question whether he ever truly let go of her. He confronts his own decisions, negotiates with his father, and agrees to end his engagement to pursue a chance with Nithya. He travels to her home to earn back her trust, and she opens up about the past, apologizing for misunderstandings and missteps.
In the end, their feelings are laid bare, and the two characters choose each other once again. The narrative closes on a hopeful note, showing them happily married and navigating life together—continuing to quarrel and to love with the same stubborn devotion that kept pulling them back to one another.
