Ralph Higbee, a 40‑year‑old alcoholic caring for his mother, is left alone after her death. Three women introduce him to LSD, and in his search for a mother‑like companion he marries Josephine, whose insatiable sexual appetite and extramarital affairs drive him away. His second wife, Amanda, proves unfaithful and scheming to take his money. With his third marriage he finally finds happiness, but an inexplicable infidelity leads to severe consequences when his wife discovers the betrayal.
