Laurent Chevalier is a 14-year-old in Dijon who loves jazz and earns top marks in class. He is a bright mind with strong opinions, especially opposing the First Indochina War. He grows up in a family where his father is distant, his mother is affectionate, and his two older brothers constantly pull pranks, creating a tense but loving environment.

Laurent's world is defined by a demanding father and a nurturing mother. Thomas and Marc pull pranks, pulling Laurent into episodes of mischief. The stage is set for the trials of adolescence as Laurent tests boundaries and concedes to temptations.
