Viswanath used Mukundan as a tool to extract money from his other victims. Being Mukundan's old college friend gave Viswanath credibility, and he exploited this relationship to draw Mukundan into his fraudulent operations. The scheme eventually exposed Mukundan to police scrutiny, leading to his termination from his job.

After establishing his false influence in the colony, Viswanath attempted to seduce Sumithra by pretending to be wealthy and well-connected. Viswanath befriended businessman C. P. Menon and promised to secure an import license for Chinese leather. Mukundan intercepted Viswanath at Chennai airport to prevent him from fleeing to Dubai and escaping the consequences of his fraud. Despite being manipulated by Viswanath and suffering job loss and police attention, Mukundan took a stand to ensure the con man faced justice rather than escaping consequences.

After the turmoil of Viswanath's deception, Mukundan and Sumithra openly confessed their mutual feelings for each other. Their relationship had developed quietly throughout the story, with Sumithra having grown fond of Mukundan. The experience of navigating false promises and true betrayal made them realize the genuine nature of their bond, leading them to marry.

Sumithra's affection for Mukundan develops early in the film, providing an emotional counterpoint to Viswanath's schemes.
