Revathi [Menaka Suresh] comes to the city from a small town in search of a job and a better life, and like many, she faces the all‑too-familiar hurdle of finding a place to live. Shyam [Shankar]Dreams of becoming a singer, but his parents oppose his musical ambitions, so he runs away from home and ends up in need of shelter. Through the common milk-boy, Chikku [Baiju Santhosh], the two meet and are offered a solution: a house to rent if they agree to pose as husband and wife in front of the landlord, Supran [Poojappura Ravi] and his practical wife, Kousalya [Thodupuzha Vasanthi].

In the same city, Ravunni Menon [Nedumudi Venu], a wealthy man who owns a bungalow in the heart of town, lives with his wife, Revathi, who shares her name with Ravunni’s household’s interests and assets. Gopalakrishnan [Mohanlal] is on a parallel quest for success, hoping to start a business and hoping to marry into money. To finance his ventures, he resorts to stealing from his stingy father and then keeps an eye out for a wealthy bride. Fate throws Revathi into his orbit when she lands at Ravunni Menon’s house while repairing electronics he had once sold to him, and Gopalakrishnan misreads her as Ravunni’s daughter.

To Revathi, the job at Gopalakrishnan’s showroom becomes a way to survive, and she plays along with Gopalakrishnan’s mistaken belief that she is Ravunni Menon’s daughter. The act grows more tangled when Revathi frequently enters Ravunni Menon’s bungalow after office hours, guided by a careful routine: she is dropped off at the gate, slips inside via the garden, and then lets Gopalakrishnan drive away. Ravunni Menon’s wife notices the pattern and grows suspicious that her husband is having an affair, especially as he encounters Revathi at the gates and in the corridors of the household.

Meanwhile, Govindan Pillai [C I Paul], known as Thenga’ Govindan Pillai, becomes a catalyst for more misunderstanding, as the older Ravunni Menon’s suspicions deepen—he wonders if his family’s peace has hidden thorns, including possibilities of another relationship or children outside their marriage.

Shyam’s affection for Revathi intensifies, and to provoke jealousy, he feigns interest in Kousalya, who herself suspects her miserly husband and feels drawn toward this new, seemingly romantic attention. Her longing to escape her rigid life and take what she believes may be a better future with Shyam pushes her toward a drastic choice.

As events escalate, Gopalakrishnan sends Ravunni Menon a letter claiming that he is in love with Revathy, which, in the eyes of Ravunni and his wife, seems to confirm an affair. This triggers a cascade of revelations, and Revathy must reveal her true identity. After a tense confrontation and a series of comic and dramatic misunderstandings, Revathy decides to build a life with Shyam rather than with Gopalakrishnan, who accepts their choice with a wary goodwill.

In the end, the two central couples find a resolution grounded in forgiveness and mutual respect: Ravunni Menon and his wife, Revathy, choose not to separate, reaffirming their bond and home, while Revathy and Shyam begin a life together with new hopes. The film closes on a note of hopeful stability, reminding viewers that love and honesty can emerge from the most tangled of circumstances, even as each character learns something about desire, loyalty, and the value of a sincere partnership.
