Ani, a girl from a middle-class family in Bhopal, rejects several marriage proposals hoping to marry an NRI. She meets Pushpinder Tyagi, a Dubai-based accountant who has returned to India and is eager to marry. His mother Indu is driven by dowry, while Ani's aunt Prabha encourages her to seize the opportunity.

The two families visit a supposedly wealthy marriage prospect and the dowry demand triggers conflict. Indu insists on a dowry, which the other family rejects. In a fit of rage, Indu calls off the wedding. The setback plants the seeds of a drastic solution in Ani.

Ani convinces Pushpinder to elope with her, defying both families. They arrive at the family doorstep already married, leaving the relatives with no choice but to accept the union. The elopement abruptly turns into a formal marriage in the eyes of everyone.

The wedding goes ahead despite Indu’s anger over the dowry issue. Ani’s father discreetly offers a portion of the dowry to Pushpinder, who refuses, stating he does not believe in dowry. Ani overhears this exchange and gains a new respect for him, though she remains emotionally distant.

News arrives in Bhopal that Pushpinder has been fired from his Dubai job and has secured a new position back home. He explains he plans to stay in India rather than return to Dubai. Indu and Ani react with frustration, wanting to push him back to Dubai.

Pushpinder resists the suggestion to return to Dubai, explaining Dubai does not suit him and that he misses his family. He refuses the higher-paying Dubai opportunity and chooses to remain near his loved ones. Indu grows more anxious about his choices and their impact on the marriage.

Indu advises Ani not to consummate the marriage until Pushpinder agrees to move back to Dubai. Pushpinder, overhearing their plan, confronts Ani and slaps her in anger. The room fills with tension as both realize their relationship is strained.

Infuriated, Ani leaves both homes and stands outside her house, torn between two families. Her father urges her to work it out and reminds her that marriage was her choice. Pushpinder’s grandmother steps in and persuades Ani to come back inside, softening her resolve but not ending her anger.

One night, Pushpinder abruptly leaves for Dubai, leaving a note apologizing for the slap and including a one-way ticket to Singapore to fuel Ani’s dream of living abroad. Ani is shaken by the sudden departure but keeps the ticket as a reminder of her longing. He leaves behind unresolved questions about their marriage.

In Pushpinder’s absence, Indu and Ani confront their choices and realize their errors. Indu regrets pushing Pushpinder into Dubai for money, while Ani regrets marrying solely to leave India without personal attachment. The family introspection marks a turning point in their attitudes.

Pushpinder returns unexpectedly, unwilling to be apart from his family any longer. His sudden reappearance triggers a reconciliation with Indu and Ani, softening the previous rifts. The women begin to open up to him again.

With tensions resolved, Pushpinder and Ani dash off to consummate their marriage, sealing the reconciliation and their commitment. The family begins planning a wedding ceremony that now carries genuine affection rather than obligation. The film closes on a note of unity and hope.
