The thunder god Raiden handpicks three champions to represent Earth: Liu Kang, Johnny Cage, and Sonya Blade. Each champion is motivated by personal vendettas and the desire to prove their worth.

Liu Kang enters the tournament seeking revenge for his brother Chan's death at the hands of Shang Tsung. His journey is fueled by determination and the desire to honor his family.

Sonya Blade hunts down crime lord Kano, who is responsible for murdering her partner. Her fierce dedication leads her to the tournament, where she seeks justice.

Hollywood star Johnny Cage enters the tournament to prove that he is not just a fraud as the media claims. He aims to show the world his true fighting capabilities.

The champions arrive at Shang Tsung's mystical island, where Liu Kang encounters Princess Kitana, an ally with vital intel about the tournament. Tensions arise as the competitors prepare for battle.

Liu Kang defeats his initial adversary, showcasing his skill and determination. Meanwhile, Sonya confronts Kano, finally achieving the revenge she sought.

In a tense battle, Johnny Cage faces the deadly ninja Scorpion. After being teleported to Scorpion's dark realm, Cage manages to outsmart his opponent and claims victory.

Liu Kang faces the formidable ninja Sub-Zero, known for his powerful freezing techniques. Remembering Kitana's advice, he turns the tides in his favor and manages to defeat Sub-Zero.

After losing his friend Art Lean to Goro, a four-armed warrior, Johnny Cage challenges him despite Raiden's warnings. He strikes a deal with Shang Tsung in hopes to avenge his friend.

In a desperate move, Shang Tsung captures Sonya and forces her to battle him under the tournament's rules. This act pushes Liu Kang and Johnny Cage to venture into Outworld to rescue her.

Liu Kang battles Shang Tsung, facing not just the sorcerer but also the tormented souls of past competitors. With courage, Liu Kang unleashes his full power and defeats Shang Tsung.

After his victory, Liu Kang's energy forcibly releases the captured souls, including that of his brother Chan. This moment signifies hope for the future of the realm.

The champions return to Earthrealm to joyous celebrations at the Shaolin temple. However, their victory is shadowed by the ominous appearance of Shao Kahn.

As a colossal image of Shao Kahn looms overhead, he declares his intention to claim their souls. Raiden and the champions prepare for an impending battle against this new threat.
