Monkey Trouble

Nine-year-old Eva is imaginative, resilient, and determined to have a dog, even when her family doubts her. She forms a rapid, heartfelt bond with Dodger, seeing him as a companion she cannot have in a real pet. Dodger is a clever Capuchin monkey with a playful yet street-smart streak. He bonds quickly with Eva and becomes a source of both joy and mischief, often using his wits to navigate tight spots. His theft-driven antics drive much of the plot and force Eva to confront responsibility and trust.

Azro is a Romani kleptomaniac who leverages Fingers to steal from the wealthy. He is ambitious and ruthless, drawn into a crime syndicate by mafia members Drake and Charlie. His pursuit of Dodger and harsh treatment of Fingers create danger for Eva and escalate the conflict.

Tom is Eva’s stepfather, a police lieutenant who values order and safety. He is initially wary of Eva’s stories and even allergically allergic to fur, which complicates family life. Over the course of the story, his concern for his family drives him to confront the truth and help bring Azro to justice.

Peter is Eva’s biological father, a pilot who travels frequently. Mark is Azro’s son who comes to retrieve Dodger but is shown to have a conflicted loyalty. He embodies a softer, more personal side within a criminal world and ultimately helps Dodger decide where his true home lies. This dynamic adds emotional depth to the film’s resolution.
