Mist: The Tale of a Sheepdog Puppy

On a foggy night in Devon, Gail gives birth to a litter of three puppies in the barn of Borough Farm. Sir Gregory notices the newborns and names the third puppy Mist after the misty night. The other dogs—Swift, Ernie, and Jake—greet the pups, while Fern bristles at the new arrivals.

Mist spots a flock of sheep through a nearby window and points them out to Storm and Drift. They can’t see the sheep yet and tease Mist for making it up. Mist dreams of one day working the flock.

Mist shows a strong interest in working the flock while her siblings are less focused. Sir Gregory talks with Gail about Mist's potential and whether the pups will stay or leave Borough Farm.

Two families arrive to take Storm and Drift away, and Gail watches them drive off with a mix of sadness and relief. Mist remains behind as the future potential working dog of Borough Farm.

Winter settles over Borough Farm, and Fern remains cool toward Mist. Mist wanders into the woods, gets lost, and is rescued by the Boss and Sir Gregory.

Mist faces her first official sheepdog test but becomes overexcited and fails. The Boss administers the walk of shame, a punishment that pleases Fern.

To practice control, Mist rounds up ducks from a nearby pond, pretending they are sheep. With the ducks' help, she gradually learns what it takes to be a good sheepdog.

Fern schemes to make Mist break a rule by rounding up rams. After a narrow escape, Mist is harshly scolded by her mother, while Fern looks on with pride.

Mist succeeds in her next test, and Sir Gregory is proud of her progress. He goes to sleep that night and dies in his sleep, leaving the family to cope with his loss.

With Sir Gregory gone, Mist begins to doubt herself as a working sheepdog. The family continues the farm, but her motivation wavers as she processes his absence.

Mist and Fern are sent to save a ram named MacPherson from a cliff on a misty day. Mist must go alone because Fern fears heights, though Fern guides her with her keen hearing. Mist is attacked and pushed off the edge, and Fern, the Boss, and MacPherson fear she is dead until she survives.

Mist recovers and, drawing on Sir Gregory's training, guides MacPherson away from the cliff with the power of her gaze. Fern is relieved to see Mist alive and capable, and the two begin to reconnect.

Back at the farm, Fern admits Mist is a brilliant sheepdog and the two put their rivalry behind them. The family accepts Mist as part of the working pack.

Mist happily works the flock with her family, having claimed her place as a respected member of the pack. The film closes with Mist thriving as a skilled sheepdog alongside her kin.
