Minuscule 2: Mandibles from Far Away

Years after Cox and Mandible defeated Butor, Cox now raises his litter with his mate and stockpiles food for winter. Life revolves around gathering and storing provisions to survive the cold months. The colony builds caches and plans to endure the season ahead.

Junior, eager for independence, leaves the group and tries to carry an apple back to their home. Toofete the fly and his gang steal the apple, having survived because they can return from the afterlife. Cox remains focused on winter prep, unaware of the unfolding departure.

The chase after the stolen fruit ends with Toofete's gang getting trapped on a spider's web, which crashes and kills them. The immediate threat to the nest is removed, but the event also drives Junior onward in his journey. Cox's pursuit shows his protective instinct for his family.

Cox and Junior return to the home and decide to hibernate for the winter. The rest of the colony follows the routine as temperatures drop and stores enough food for the season ahead.

Mandible's patrol raids a grocery store to stockpile food for the winter. Butor and his red-ant colony attack in revenge against Cox and Mandible, escalating the conflict between the factions. The confrontation foreshadows the coming rescue mission.

Mandible uses his antennae to contact Cox for help. Cox awakens from hibernation and answers the call, setting off to assist, with Junior trailing behind. This marks the renewed alliance between the friends against common threats.

Cox and Junior reach Guadeloupe territory, traveling first by truck and then by plane. Cox falls off the truck onto a beach, while Junior is separated and lost in the jungle. The pursuit continues as they try to reunite.

A troop of Caribbean ants helps Cox regain his bearings and relays a message to Mandible. With the new allies, Cox resumes the search for Junior. Mandible receives the message and begins his own voyage toward Guadeloupe in response.

Mandible and the black spider sail toward Guadeloupe aboard a modified ship. A storm strikes, blowing the balloons and sending them into the sea, where a great white shark eats them. The loss strains the alliance as other fronts unfold.

In the jungle, Junior escapes a praying mantis and crashes into a cave, getting caught in a jumping spider's web. There he meets Gray the fly, a black swallowtail caterpillar, and Coco the black ladybug, and he falls in love with Coco. The new companions become a catalyst for his growth.

Cox arrives and saves them by dropping a rock on the spider, unraveling the web and freeing the group. They carry a comatose Junior to safety as the dangers around them persist. The rescue sets the stage for Junior's recovery and his bond with Coco.

Coco leads Cox to her colony, where the black ladybugs perform a ritual to help Junior regain consciousness. Two days later, Junior wakes and begins to bond with Coco as his girlfriend. The community's support solidifies their relationship.

Construction workers chop down the black ladybug's home to build a resort. Cox recalls the caterpillar's defense and seeks help from the banyan-tree caterpillars, who use their memory and army to ward off the crew. The area is declared caterpillar-infested, halting the plan.

The gang parts ways with their friends and returns home to resume hibernation, while Junior decides to stay behind to be with Coco. The ongoing romance shifts the balance of the community’s future as winter approaches again.

In a mid-credits scene, the chestnut box that Butor and his colony were stuck in arrives at a restaurant in Beijing, China. Butor begins to plot their escape and revenge against Cox and Mandible, teasing new conflicts to come.
