Ambi arrives in Kumbakonam to meet his paralysed father after receiving a message that hinted at his separation from Sweetie. He carries guilt for the rift with his wife and for the fragile state of his father. The moment marks a turning point as old grievances begin to surface.

Earlier, Ambi and Sweetie visited Vembu and Janaki in Delhi. Vembu insulted Sweetie for marrying outside their community, humiliating her in front of the family. Heartbroken, Sweetie decides to return to Delhi with Ambi and the couple's engagement collapses.

Ambi and Sweetie quarrel over the family dispute and finally decide to separate in Delhi. The rift deepens, and their separation reverberates through Ambi’s life and his relationship with his father. This split sets the stage for the present-day crisis.

Upon hearing about his son's separation, Vembu becomes distressed and suffers a stroke, leaving him paralysed. The illness draws the family into a new struggle beyond the physical ailment. His condition becomes a catalyst for memories to surface.

In the present, the doctor recognises that there is another side to Vembu beyond his physical illness. The medical team senses deeper emotional currents tied to his past. This insight begins to connect the present crisis with a long-buried history.

As Vembu lies, he taps his fingers, which he uses as steps for a dance, hinting at a buried memory of Avayam. The family realises that a long-forgotten romance is shaping his present pain. The past and present start to intertwine in his mind.

The flashback reveals that Vembu and Avayam loved each other and married despite his mother’s opposition. They shared a talent for singing and dancing, which angered the mother. Their happiness clashes with family pressure and social norms.

Avayam’s singing and dancing provoke the mother’s anger, and Vembu lashes out, slapping her and expelling her from the house. Avayam leaves in humiliation, feeling betrayed. The couple’s bond fractures as divorce becomes a possibility.

In court, Vembu accuses Avayam of moral turpitude to justify the divorce, deeply hurting her and cementing their separation. The social stigma adds to the tragedy of their breakup. Although they are apart, Vembu remains tormented by guilt.

Ambi’s friend Murthy suggests bringing Avayam to meet Vembu before he dies, hoping for some closure. Janaki refuses, wary of reopening old wounds. The plan foreshadows a possible reconciliation but remains unresolved.

As Vembu’s condition worsens, Sweetie returns home in traditional attire to seek forgiveness from Janaki and Vembu. The gesture signals a potential renewal of family bonds. Janaki welcomes the return, while Vembu remains hopeful but unsettled.

Murthy brings Avayam, now a famous dancer named Chitralekha, to the hospital to see Vembu. Seeing Avayam stirs a flood of emotion in Vembu as he realises she has forgiven him. Avayam holds Vembu’s hand tightly as his fingers keep tapping, signaling a healing moment.
