Maheshum Marutiyum

In 1983, a bright red Maruti 800 is bought for Mahesh, the boy who grows up with a dream tied to that car. The car is presented to him by Indira Gandhi, and his father becomes a local celebrity car guy in the village, even featured in the newspaper.

Gowri is the love of his life, a schoolboy romance that faces the challenge of distance when her family can afford to send her to Delhi for education, so Mahesh concentrates on his growing attachment to the Maruti 800.

Two decades pass, and Mahesh still cherishes his father’s car. When the beloved vehicle is stolen, he is crushed, but the thief shows mercy and abandons the car after seeing a newspaper clipping about the car being presented by Indira Gandhi.

Some years later, Mahesh runs an automobile service garage and faces financial difficulties. In a bid to keep things afloat, he rents out the Maruti 800, but the car runs into trouble with the law when it’s used for a wedding.

Gowri returns and helps Mahesh with his court case, and the childhood sweethearts rekindle their romance.

Gowri and Mahesh seem destined for a happy reunion and marriage, but the Maruti 800 remains a central point of tension. The car has become a vintage symbol with substantial value, and selling it could be the boost they need for a future together—if only Mahesh could bear to part with his father’s car.

In the end, Mahesh starts a Maruti Authorized showroom in his village and places his father’s car, the Maruti 800, on display, turning a personal relic into a beacon of pride and resilience for the community.
