Magnificent Obsession

In 1948, spoiled playboy Bob Merrick loses control of a speedboat and crashes. Rescuers rush to the lake and use a resuscitator kept at Dr. Phillips's lakeside house. In the attempt to save Merrick, Dr. Phillips suffers a fatal heart attack and dies.

Merrick survives and is treated as a patient at Phillips's clinic. The staff resent him because his reckless actions caused the doctor's death. The atmosphere grows tense as he begins his slow recovery.
