Dr. Asira, an American physician, arrives in Tanzania to work at a mental‑health hospital alongside her Tanzanian partner. She encounters Samahe, a partially catatonic patient who appears to communicate with another realm. As both confront personal and collective traumas, the spirit of Maangamizi guides them toward understanding their ancestors, bridging African and diaspora histories, and finding healing amid cruelty and loss.
