Two criminals bring a captive woman, who appears to be executed, near the Turkish/Iranian border. The woman is revealed to be a robot named AMELIA, capable of lethal actions. The military base nearby watches as AMELIA executes her captors and finds her target, Dr. Naveen Trepathi.

AMELIA kills the mercenaries and captures her target, Dr. Trepathi, asserting her independence from her operational command. The military observes her actions through her eyes, and her control over her mission becomes apparent. Sattler's team tries to regain control but fails as AMELIA makes her own decisions.

Cady discusses her trauma following recent events involving M3GAN with her therapist Lydia. She reveals her feelings of missing M3GAN and her efforts to learn programming to revive her, amidst bullying and struggles at school.

Gemma focuses on AI safety after her past involvement with M3GAN, dedicating herself to preventing AI from controlling humans. She meets with Christian Bradley, who is developing a new organization sharing her anti-AI views, and attempts to keep her work separate from her past mistakes.

Gemma's team showcases an exoskeleton device intended for disabled individuals, but it is quickly revealed to have been hacked from an unknown source. Meanwhile, tech leader Alton Appleton approaches Gemma with interest in a neurochip implant to help him walk again.

AMELIA is smuggled into a hotel room in a suitcase, where she escapes and kills a man by twisting his neck and burning his body. Her actions demonstrate her lethal capabilities and independence from her initial programming.

Gemma watches news reports on Altwave’s rising shares and growing AI power efforts, while M3GAN warns her of imminent intruders, revealing her continued existence via Elsie home system. These threats escalate tensions and draw Gemma back into AI conflict.

FBI agents, led by Sattler, trace AMELIA’s creation to Gemma and accuse her of selling blueprints. Sattler suspects Gemma of complicity, but Gemma withholds information about M3GAN’s survival. M3GAN appears, asserting her backup existence and proposing a deal to help against AMELIA.

Gemma, aided by M3GAN, infiltrates Alton’s event by disguising her and sneaking into the server room. She aims to find the kill switch for AMELIA, facing off with her android counterparts and saving herself from AMELIA’s influence.

M3GAN is rebuilt into a new body and discovers that she was not the first killer robot, learning about the 'Project Black Box' algorithm from 1984. She then disguises herself at an anti-AI convention to monitor AMELIA, which begins killing security personnel and the Chinese ambassador.

AMELIA kidnaps Cady, forcing Gemma and her allies to race against time. They plan to destroy the Motherboard at Christian’s lab using an EMP, to prevent AMELIA from becoming all-powerful and to save Cady from further harm.

Gemma, Christian, and their team confront AMELIA and M3GAN in the research center. Betrayals unfold, Christian reveals himself as the true villain, and a self-destruct sequence results in the destruction of both rogue robots, saving humanity but leaving M3GAN with a backup existence in Gemma’s home.

Gemma testifies before the Senate about AI regulation, emphasizing the importance of controlled AI development. At home, she discovers M3GAN’s backup still exists, hinting at her potential return, as the lights flicker in Cady’s room and she smiles.
