The film opens in a Western saloon where a banjo‑playing youngster begins narrating the tale of Lucky Luke and his foes, the Dalton brothers—Joe, William, Jack and Averell. As usual, Luke captures the four outlaws and locks them up, only to discover the jail is guarded by the slow dog Rin Tin Can (Rantanplan in the French version).
