Lucky and Zorba

On the coasts of Hamburg, a gang of sewer rats led by Big Rat steals food while a cat gang led by the Colonel plans to remove them. The plan backfires and the rats retreat as pursuers close in, leaving the cats victorious but with Zorba the black cat injured in the skirmish. The clash sets off a tense chain of events around the harbor.

During the escape, the cats cross paths with Bubulina, and Zorba becomes smitten. He temporarily departs from the fight to pursue her, altering the dynamics of the group. The romance introduces a new thread amid the chaos.

The next day, a petrol ship sinks, spilling fuel into the sea and slicking the surface. The slick threatens sea life and attracts the attention of a seagull flock scanning for food. The disaster marks the start of Kengah’s fateful journey.

Among the flock is Kengah, a seagull returning from her first migration and about to lay her very first egg. She travels with the group as they search for fish in the petrol-tainted waters. The egg signifies a hopeful future amid the chaos.

Kengah flies over the city, but the petrol ruins her feathers and she crashes into Zorba's garden. She pleads with Zorba not to eat her, explaining that she is covered in petrol and could be hazardous. Zorba hesitates, realizing the precarious situation.

Kengah makes Zorba promise three things if she cannot survive: do not eat her egg when it is laid, take care of the egg until it hatches, and teach the newborn how to fly. Zorba agrees with some hesitation, moved by her plea. The promises bind him to a future he never imagined.

Zorba gathers his friends to help clean the petrol from Kengah and to protect the egg. They search for knowledge in an abandoned museum, pulling encyclopedias to learn how to care for a hatchling. The group’s effort marks the first cooperative plan in their unlikely alliance.

Despite their efforts, the rescue comes too late and Kengah dies. Under her wing they discover the egg she laid, a fragile beacon of hope. The cats resolve to fulfill her promises and protect the unborn chick.

Zorba sits on the egg and helps it hatch, bringing forth a hatchling named Lucky. The newborn is raised by the cat clan as if it were a cat herself. The discovery of a bird among cats reshapes the town’s expectations.

Lucky grows up believing she is a cat, until Pallino, a jealous red kitten, reveals that she is literally a bird and that her adoptive father could eat her. The revelation creates tension and a sense of identity crisis within the household. The cat family becomes divided over her true nature.

Choosing to flee, Lucky runs away and is captured by Great Big Rat's minions. The cats mount a city-wide search to retrieve her, swayed by the fear of the rat leader’s growing power. The stakes rise as the war between cats and rats expands to the urban landscape.

The cats collect cheese and fashion a giant wheel to hide inside, a trick they learned from the Trojan Horse. Pallino sneaks into the sewers to stop the rats but is captured along with Lucky. The wheel arrives in time and the cats burst out, saving the pair and throwing Great Big Rat into the canals.

Zorba and friends decide to teach Lucky to fly with the help of Bubulina’s owner, a little girl named Nina, who spirits them to a tall tower. Zorba communicates with Nina in her dreams despite cats not talking to humans openly. The plan sets up a dramatic ascent for Lucky.

At the tower’s edge, Lucky makes her first feathery jump and, guided by Zorba’s teaching, starts to fly. The Great Big Rat roars in fury as his plan collapses. Lucky calls Zorba by name, thanks him, and bids farewell before joining a flock of seagulls into the night.
