Lovers, Liars and Lunatics

Paddy Rayne begins an affair with his secretary Gloria and privately plans to leave his wife Elaine for her. He hides the money at home in anticipation of starting a new life. Gloria recruits Louis and Justine to rob the Rayne house for the night.

Elaine uncovers Paddy's infidelity and steals Paddy's money from the kitchen cupboard spice bottles. She decides to leave Paddy in the morning, and the couple cancels their Bakersfield getaway at the last minute.

Louis and Justine arrive to rob the house and are surprised to find Paddy and Elaine still at home. The couple are forced to tie them up, starting a chaotic night of bluffs and counterbluffs.

Louis and Justine realize they cannot leave because their getaway car is missing and Paddy's other car has been taken by their son Gunner. A tense standoff develops as the would-be robbers square off with the family.

Julian, the Raynes' other son, arrives and is also tied up. Later Gunner and his date Sally return and are put under threat as the chaos escalates around the house.

Paddy, hiding in a bathroom, offers Louis a payoff if he kills Elaine so Paddy can be free. Elaine later tells Louis she will pay him to kill Paddy's mistress Gloria. Gloria, however, is the one who originally hired Louis to rob the house.

Gloria arrives to press for progress on the robbery just as two inept police officers appear, threatening to blow the whole situation out of proportion. Justine shoots herself in the foot, forcing Elaine to untie her and tend to the wound.

Gloria has sex with Paddy in the bathroom to coax him out about his money, but Paddy dies of a heart attack, a consequence of Elaine having swapped his heart medication with Viagra earlier in the evening. Gloria learns of a $140,000 cashier's check and seizes it.

Gloria and Louis argue and Gloria accidentally shoots Justine, triggering a scramble as Elaine unties everyone. Louis attacks Gloria in the confusion.

Gunner intervenes in the struggle and slips, fatally hitting his head on the kitchen counter. The violence spirals further as others react to the catastrophe.

Elaine grabs a baseball bat and bludgeons Louis to death while Julian flees. Sally rushes outside to chase the departing police, but is run down by a patrol car.

The two policemen return to the scene, arrest Gloria as she tries to leave. They find all the deceased, with Elaine appearing to be the sole survivor, though she seems likely to be blamed for the killings due to her unstable demeanor.

In the closing joke, Elaine is left babbling to the cops about her husband's affair and complaining about the TV speakers, hinting that she may be blamed for the night’s carnage.
