Love in the Villa

Julie Hutton, a third-grade teacher, is filled with enthusiasm for her upcoming trip to Verona, the iconic setting of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. She attempts to convey her excitement about the centuries-old love story to her students, but her efforts do not resonate with them.

During a dinner at a restaurant, Julie shares her carefully planned itinerary for the Verona trip with her boyfriend, Brandon. Overwhelmed by her excitement and the weight of their relationship, Brandon suddenly breaks up with her, leaving Julie shocked and heartbroken.

Faced with the prospect of traveling alone, Julie boards her flight to Verona, carrying her hopes for a romantic getaway. However, her experience is less than ideal, including an uncomfortable flight with lost luggage and a chaotic taxi ride.

Upon arriving in Verona, Julie discovers that the villa she booked has been double-booked due to a mistake on an apartment-sharing site. The villa's owner, Silvio, suggests that she share the accommodation with another guest, a wine expert, amidst the busy Vinitaly event.

Julie reluctantly agrees to share the villa with Charlie, the wine expert, despite her initial disappointment. Their first interaction is tense, especially after Charlie reads her personal journal and makes an offhand comment about breakups.

As they try to cohabitate, Charlie's allergies become a major issue when Julie mistakenly opens a window, letting in a horde of street cats. When she complains about him to her friend, Rob, he playfully suggests she create a distraction.

In retaliation for Charlie's antics, Julie surrounds him with green olives to attract the cats, resulting in Charlie suffering from severe allergic reactions. Angry and misunderstood, Charlie retaliates by declaring that she was institutionalized.

Julie's frustration culminates in her calling the police to report Charlie for theft after getting the locks changed to keep him out. Charlie is arrested, which leads to a public display involving bits from her diary and escalates their feud.

After the conflict, Charlie and Julie begrudgingly decide to share a meal. However, a culinary mishap leads to a chaotic food fight, bringing laughter amidst the tension, but also attracting the attention of the police once again.

Later, Charlie and Julie find common ground over wine, with Charlie revealing that he substituted mushrooms for the horse meat in their dish. The evening results in both of them opening up to each other, leading to a drunken night filled with unexpected intimacy.

Julie and Charlie take a romantic tour of Verona, beginning with a wish at the Fontana Madonna. They find themselves at several significant spots, including the bronze statue of Juliet, where they make wishes together, marked by the air of budding affection.

At the Vinitaly event, Julie compliments the wine from Carlo Caruso, unknowingly jeopardizing Charlie's business interests. Despite the tense backdrop, romantic tension builds between them as they share a dance, bordering on a kiss before hesitating.

Charlie's fiancée, Cassie, makes an unexpected appearance that surprises him just as he begins to develop feelings for Julie. The next morning, Julie unexpectedly reunites with Brandon, leading to an awkward dinner with the two couples.

After a night of drinking, Julie and Brandon share a table with Charlie and Cassie, but Julie ends up leaving drunk. Charlie witnesses Brandon's proposal, but what he doesn't see is Julie rejecting him, marking a pivotal moment in Julie's feelings.

Silvio encourages Charlie to track down Julie after realizing the depth of her rejection. When they finally meet again, Julie and Charlie acknowledge their feelings for each other, culminating in the realization they've both fallen in love amidst their chaotic adventures.
