Love in Taipei

Ever Wong, a 21-year-old Taiwanese American, is sent by her parents to a summer school program in Taipei called Huewei. Initially, she is unhappy about the trip as she had plans to prepare for a prestigious dance audition in New York.

Upon arriving at Huewei, Ever discovers that many students view the program as an opportunity to party and meet people, rather than solely focusing on academics. The program is informally referred to as 'Loveboat' among attendees.

Ever starts receiving anonymous sketches of herself from a secret admirer, sparking her curiosity and excitement. This unexpected attention begins to change her perspective on her time in Taipei.

Ever quickly befriends Sophie Ha, who introduces her to Rick 'Wonder Boy' Woo, a successful fellow student and the cousin of Sophie. Ever feels the pressure of being compared to Rick, who embodies the accomplishments her mother values.

As Ever spends more time with Sophie and Rick, she starts to break out of her shell. She explores Taipei, parties with newfound friends, and reconnects with her Auntie Shu, who provides her a space to practice for her dance audition.

Rick invites Ever to a fancy family gathering to improve his image after a breakup. He attempts to impress his family by embellishing Ever's background, portraying her as an accomplished medical student from a successful family, which leads to tension.

Hurt by Rick's actions at the party, Ever abruptly leaves. At the same time, Sophie's relationship with Xavier ends after he embarrasses her, leading to both girls feeling heartbroken and confused.

On her way back to Huwei, Ever and Xavier find themselves trapped in a typhoon. During this intense moment, Xavier reveals that he is the artist behind the secret sketches, leading to an unexpected romantic connection.

After the storm, Ever returns to campus to find the power out. She encounters Rick, who apologizes for his prior behavior and admits to caring for her, but he shares that he will be leaving Taipei soon due to the flooding.

The next day, Ever visits her Auntie Shu's studio only to find it devastated by the floods after she forgot to close the windows. She reaches out to her parents, receiving disappointing news about her dance audition rejection.

With encouragement from Xavier, Ever begins moving forward, summoning her friends to help restore Auntie Shu's studio. They work together to prepare for the Loveboat Street Festival, celebrating the culture and resilience post-storm.

As the Loveboat Street Festival approaches, Ever's parents fly in to support her efforts. This occasion becomes crucial for Ever as she prepares to express her true passions to her family.

During the festival, Ever gathers the courage to tell her parents that she doesn't want to pursue a medical career. Instead, she expresses that she is still exploring her own identity and dreams, revealing her personal growth.

The Loveboat Street Festival turns out to be a major success, highlighting the talents of the Huwei students and showcasing the spirit of community. Ever feels a sense of accomplishment and pride in what they've created together.

As the festival wraps up, Rick and Sophie reunite with Ever, sharing good wishes as they part ways. Ever and Xavier share a romantic moment, solidifying her contentment with uncertainty about the future.
