Characters & Themes
Songs for Drella is a concept album by former Velvet Underground members Lou Reed and John Cale, created as a tribute to their late mentor Andy Warhol, who died in 1987. The nickname “Drella” blends Dracula and Cinderella. The cycle chronicles Warhol’s life through three types of songs: first‑person narratives from Warhol’s viewpoint, third‑person recountings of events, and Reed‑ and Cale‑led commentaries, arranged roughly in chronological order.
