Lou Reed recorded the concept album Berlin in 1973, a work that initially met with commercial failure. For the next 33 years he never staged it live, until December 2006 when he presented it over five consecutive nights at St. Ann’s Warehouse in Brooklyn. The performances brought his dark exploration of love’s twin faces—jealousy, rage and loss—to the stage.
