In 2044, 25-year-old Joseph Simmons works as a 'Looper' in a mafia organization based in Kansas City. The syndicate uses time travel to eliminate enemies by sending them back to the past for assassination.

The operation is managed by Abe, a character from 2074 who oversees the Loopers. His authority is feared and respected, and he ensures the operations run smoothly despite the risks involved.

One evening, Joe's friend Seth, another Looper with telekinetic abilities, arrives panicked as he nears the moment of closing his own loop. His future counterpart warns him about a figure called the Rainmaker, stirring up apprehension among the Loopers.

Seth accidentally allows his future self to escape, prompting the syndicate to hunt him down mercilessly. To protect Seth, Joe hides him in his apartment, but the pressure to inform Abe leads to a tragic betrayal.

In a brutal interrogation, Abe tortures the younger Seth to compel the older version to return. This horrifying act ends with Seth meeting a tragic end, serving as a harsh lesson for Joe about the consequences of defiance.

When it's time for Joe to close his own loop, he initially shoots his older self, Bruce Willis, with little hesitation. The encounter is shocking, and Joe flees Kansas City in a bid to escape his past.

As Joe reaches the end of his thirty-year stint, he is forcibly pulled back to 2044 to conclude his loop. In a devastating twist, his wife is murdered during this process, igniting a fierce desire for revenge.

Back in 2044, old Joe informs younger Joe about his goal to eliminate the Rainmaker while still a child. This revelation creates a moral conflict for young Joe, torn between completing his loop or seeking to change the future.

Young Joe steals an important map that leads him to the Rainmaker’s location. Facing threats from Kid Blue and Abe’s henchmen, he embarks on a dangerous journey to confront his fate.

Young Joe arrives at a farmhouse belonging to Sara and her son Cid, where he discovers the map reveals Cid's birthday. This realization leads him to suspect that Cid is the future Rainmaker.

As Joe bonds with Sara, he realizes that Cid possesses extraordinary telekinetic abilities, enhancing the stakes of his mission. This connection complicates Joe's feelings as he witnesses Cid's raw power.
