Two bikers led by Bart rob Profit's bar and severely beat the barman. The attack unsettles the town and sets a tone of danger. John Gray decides to call the police despite Bart's warning that trouble will follow.

John arrests the goons

The next day, John spots the two goons and makes a citizen's arrest in front of the town. Sheriff Cal takes the suspects and locks them in a cell. Bart uses the moment to summon the rest of his gang by phone.

The rest of the bikers arrive in Profit and kill Sheriff Cal and his deputy to free Bart from the cell. The town reels as law and order collapse under gang violence. The gang's power is made clear.

That night, the gang fires on John as he returns home after dropping Sharon. He escapes and seeks help at Gus's isolated trailer. A fierce shootout ensues, wounding several thugs and leaving two to warn the others.

Bart is captured and placed in the trunk of John's pickup. They drive toward the police station, only to find the two bodies. Realizing they are in grave danger, John and Bart split up to seek help.

Gus heads into Profit to phone the police, but the lines are dead. He realizes the town's communications are down and begins planning a defense against the bikers. The breakdown of communications isolates the town.

John drives with Bart to a mine, ties Bart to a shaft, and waits for authorities to arrive. The makeshift trap is meant to prevent Bart from escaping and buying time for help.

Gus leads a group of four thugs toward the mine, but John ambushes them along the way. All four attackers are killed, and Gus is shot in the leg.
