Living in Bondage

Andy Okeke and Merit face redundancy, infidelity, bankruptcy, and lecherous admirers, setting the stage for his bitterness and envy toward wealthier peers. He measures his life against Paul and others, fueling a sense of inadequacy that pushes him toward drastic solutions.

Paul discloses a satanic cult promising enormous wealth to members who pledge loyalty to Lucifer. He explains that the wealth comes at the price of killing a loved one in ritual sacrifices, revealing the dark shortcut to fortune.

Reluctantly, Andy agrees to join the cult and sacrifice the person he loves most, Merit, hoping to end his financial desperation. He wrestles with the moral horror but feels driven by his growing needs and the lure of wealth.

After the ritual, Merit dies in hospital days later. She curses Andy for betraying her, adding a supernatural sting to the mortal loss and foreshadowing retribution.

Andy suddenly attains wealth and remarries within three months of Merit's death, alarming his in-laws and the former circle. The flashy life marks a dramatic break from the past and heightens suspicions.

The in-laws accuse him of Merit's murder, while relentless paparazzi stalk his new life, complicating his relations and fueling public scandal.

At the traditional wedding, Andy's new wife Ego bolts with his money, leaving him financially ruined again and humiliated in front of guests and observers.

Merit's restless spirit begins to terrorize Andy, appearing at moments of weakness and reminding him of his betrayal. The haunting intensifies his guilt and fuels his sense of doom.

Caro introduces Chinyere through her networks, and Andy enters a common-law union with Chinyere. Chinyere is poisoned by Caro, who intends to steal from her husband and flee abroad with the cash.

Caro is killed in a hit-and-run while trying to reach the airport. Paul is murdered by hitmen whom Andy partially implicates in his initial cult involvement.

Andy seeks help from the cult again, hoping they can rectify his guilt. The Chief Priest insists the only way to pacify Merit's spirit is to blind and castrate himself, a proposition he refuses. Andy chooses to reject the cult's excess and confront his own fate.

Deranged, Andy lives as a vagrant under a Lagos flyover. Tina—whom he had previously presented to the cult as a decoy—takes him to her church and helps him begin healing.

Andy confesses to Merit's murder. His mother visits Merit's grave and pleads for forgiveness, a turning point that grounds him back in reality.

In the final scene, Andy, now cured of his insanity, joins evangelical Christians in worship. They affirm that his sins are forgiven, signaling his spiritual redemption.
