Set during the “Golden Era” of itinerant Hungarian theatre troupes, Mariska and the actor Liliomfi fall in love, unaware that Mariska’s foster father, Professor Szilvay, is also Liliomfi’s uncle. When the professor schemes to force Liliomfi to abandon his “unrespectable” stage career, the couple confronts his hypocrisy, greed and tyrannical selfishness.
